A now-bankrupt company called Shaffer Equipment stored electrical equipment containing a cooling oil that leaked on their property at some time during 1970-1984. You are correct, an area at a lower elevation and over a mile away from ACE Adventure Resort in the town of Minden was the site of an EPA cleanup nearly 3 decades ago. Drinking water for the entire resort comes from a municipal source in a different watershed than the area being discussed. Our waterpark is tested regularly by the local health department and is held to the same standards as public swimming pools. The town itself, and the Shaffer site is more than a mile away from our lake (waterpark). First I'd like to be clear that our waterpark is fed by springs on our resort property that are located at a higher elevation than the town of Minden. Hi GHtravelteamdreams, Thank you for expressing your concerns. I will not return to ACE and I do not recommend. Do your research about the local area before booking, you have the right to know! I wish I would have. Look into the proximity of Minden, Arbuckle Creek, and the Concho Landfill to ACE Adventure. I wish I would have known this before I went to ACE. I could not enjoy any activities at ACE knowing I was so close to Arbuckle Creek and PCB contaminated water and soil. I really found this waiver concerning after driving through Minden. The water toys looked fun, but I did not like that the waiver you have to sign to play in this water area lists contaminated water as a risk or danger they are not liable for. They also have a nice variety of organized activities available. Despite all of this, I will say that ACE does have a nice outdoor patio area at their restaurant. Not sure about you, but an area like this is not my idea of relaxing in the great outdoors. Upon further investigation, I learned that within a 2 mile radius of ACE Adventure there is not only an EPA Designated Site that is on the National Priority List, but also the Concho Landfill. Along with signs pointing towards ACE, I also saw multiple signs in the town of Minden warning me that I was entering a toxic area affected by PCB’s. I was very concerned as I approached the ACE Adventure Resort Area.
